Itinerary

The driver and the tour guide will pick you up at the meeting point in Hanoi. Then, continue the journey to Ha Giang, a land known for Shan Tuyet tea, honey wine, and thang co (a traditional dish), as well as blooming peach and pear flowers, local traditions, and the lively atmosphere of its market fairs. Upon arrival, you’ll visit: The Vi Xuyen National Martyrs Cemetery: From 1979 to 1989, Ha Giang, especially in Vi Xuyen district, became a “sea of fire” in the front line against invaders. In the battle to defend the nation, thousands of soldiers courageously sacrificed their lives. Milestone 0: This marks the starting point of the Happiness Road, connecting Ha Giang with four highland districts in the stone plateau region. The driver will take you to the hotel for check-in. You are free to arrange your own dinner or savor local treats like Shan Tuyet tea, Bac Ha honey, or warm up with a bowl of chao au tau (a local porridge). Night in Ha Giang.

Enjoy breakfast and check out from the hotel. The driver and the tour guide will take you to explore the Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geopark (covering the administrative boundaries of four northern districts in Ha Giang province, spanning 2,356 square kilometers) with remarkable check-in spots: Admire the Twin Mountains in Quan Ba — a symbol of beauty in the rocky highlands. You'll walk up to the Quan Ba Heaven Gate to take in the poetic landscape of Tam Son town and enjoy the year-round fresh, cool air. After lunch, you’ll continue your journey to visit: Tham Ma Pass — a winding, scenic mountain pass that gracefully stretches along the mountainside, resembling a soft, flowing silk ribbon. Lung Cam Cultural Village — nestled in Sung La Valley, often called the “rose of the plateau” for its simple, rustic charm. This village was the filming location for the award-winning Vietnamese movie Pao’s Story, where visitors can learn about the Hmong culture. The architectural site of the Vuong Family Palace (Palace of the Hmong King) — a rare, beautiful, and unique architectural structure of the highlands. Conquer the Lung Cu Flag Tower, also known as Dragon Mountain, at the northernmost point of Vietnam, with a 54-square-meter flag representing the unity of Vietnam's 54 ethnic groups. From the top, you’ll enjoy views of green terraced fields and the villages of Lo Lo Chai and Then Pa, with two lakes nearby, often referred to by locals as the “eyes of the dragon.” You’ll arrange your own dinner and then check in at your hotel to relax. Overnight in Dong Van. Note: The Lung Cu Flag Tower visit may be skipped in case of unfavorable weather conditions.

Have breakfast and check out from the hotel. The driver and the tour guide will take you to visit: Ma Pi Leng Pass: One of the four great mountain passes of northern Vietnam, stretching 24 kilometers. You’ll stop to rest and take photos in this deeply carved terrain, known for its dramatic landscapes. Along the way, stop for photos at the Thanh Nien Monument in front of the Happiness Road Museum, and optionally, visit Ma Pi Leng Café (self-paid) for panoramic views of the Happiness Road and the Nho Que River below. Photo stop at Pa Vi Community-Based Cultural Tourism Village, located at the base of Ma Pi Leng Pass by the green Nho Que River. This village captures visitors’ interest with its impressive entrance gate in the shape of a giant Hmong khen (traditional bamboo flute) and homestays that showcase the unique culture and style of the Hmong people. Continuing the journey to Cao Bang, you’ll stop in Bao Lac for lunch at a local restaurant. On arrival in Cao Bang, check in to your hotel and enjoy dinner at your own expense. Overnight in Cao Bang.

Enjoy breakfast and check out from the hotel. Then, start to visit: Ban Gioc Waterfall: One of Vietnam’s most beautiful waterfalls, forming a natural border with China. This majestic waterfall flows year-round, with its waters originating from the emerald-green Quay Son River. It is especially stunning during the rice harvest season (September) when the path to the falls is brightly golden and the foamy white water cascades like a silken veil, creating a poetic and grandiose scene. Phat Tich Truc Lam Ban Gioc Pagoda: Built in traditional Vietnamese architecture on an area of 3 hectares, this is the first pagoda constructed on Vietnam's northern border. Have lunch and continue exploring: Nguom Ngao Cave: A large cave formed by long-term limestone erosion. Upon entering, you’ll step into a fantastical world with colorful stalactites and enchanting rock formations resembling humans, trees, animals, and more. The stalactites and stalagmites, some descending from above and others rising from the ground, create an incredibly dynamic atmosphere. Khuoi Ky Stone Village: Here, the Tay people of Trung Khanh preserve traditional stilt houses surrounded by stone, with a belief that stone represents the origin of life and the center of the universe. The village stands out as a solid image against the vast sky and mountains. Visiting a homestay and enjoying a cup of coffee amid the natural scenery offers a uniquely peaceful experience. Afterward, return to Cao Bang city, where you can enjoy dinner at a local restaurant and shop for local specialties such as dong vermicelli, black jelly, and sausage. Then, check in to your hotel to relax. Overnight in Cao Bang.

Enjoy breakfast and check out from the hotel. The driver will take you to visit: Pac Bo Historical Site: A place where President Ho Chi Minh once lived and worked, set in a poetic, scenic landscape. In front of the cave lies the serene Lenin Stream, named by Ho Chi Minh himself, and nearby stands the majestic Karl Marx Mountain. Kim Dong Memorial Site: This site honors the heroic martyr Kim Dong, who played a crucial role in protecting revolutionary officials during the resistance period. Afterward, you’ll depart for Bac Kan, check in to your accommodation, and relax in Ba Be. Overnight in Ba Be.

Head to the boat dock for a tour of: Ba Be Lake (2 hours) — Explore this vibrant, picturesque landscape where the lake's mirror-like, emerald waters captivate visitors. Here, nature and people seem to blend harmoniously. Enjoy views of Fairy Pond, An Ma Temple, and Widow Island. The boat will pause on the lake, where you can join a traditional Then singing performance accompanied by the Dan Tinh (a traditional Tay instrument) or try kayaking around Widow Island (self-paid). Afterward, check out from the hotel and enjoy lunch on your own. Then, back to Hanoi. End of tour!
